Abstract
553,603. Hydraulic control mechanism. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd., and EDGE, S. H. Oct. 20, 1941, No. 13478. [Classes 69 (ii) and 135] [Also in Group XXI] A hydraulic control mechanism for selectively operating one or more of a series of servocylinders 7, Fig. 1, from a pump 2 is constructed so as to apply a graduated pressure for effecting operations such as starting, stopping, speed variation, steering of vehicles, or for simultaneously controlling the rotation of a gun turret and elevation of guns, is constructed with selective means for operating reaction valves so as to direct the output of the pump 2 to the desired servo-cylinder 7 instead of allowing the output to return direct to the tank 1 via pipe 5. As shown in Fig. 2, the cylinders 7 are cut off from the supply pipe 3 by spring-pressed valves 26, and a plunger 8 is raised by a spring 17 to permit the output to have access to a port 13 and outlet 15 connected to the exhaust pipe 5. On operation of a universally mounted lever 31 with four arms 36 a selected plunger 28 is depressed by one of the arms and a beam 30 acts upon a collar 16 on plunger 8 and depresses this so as to close on the valve seat 10. At the same time a ported plunger 20 is depressed and acts upon a further plunger 19 via a spring 22 and pressure is put upon the valve member 26 to direct the pressure fluid to the required cylinder 7 the pressure applied being proportional to the pressure put upon lever 31. The reaction valves described may be replaced by sliding ported piston valves which connect the cylinders 7 to the pump output. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the lever 31 is replaced by a number of key levers 54 which can be operated more than one at a time to act upon the desired number of plungers 49 which are equivalent to the plungers 20, Fig. 2. Each time a key lever is operated a lever 53 depresses the plunger 8 to close the exhaust valve at the same time as the valves are opened to the cylinders 7.
