Abstract
712,918. Hydraulic machines. SMITH, W. H. Oct. 23, 1952 [Oct. 23, 1951 ; March 11, 1952], Nos. 24755/51 and 6348/52. Class 69 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] Hydraulically operated remote control mechanism comprises a transmitter 1 connected by two pipe-lines 10, 11 to a receiver 14. Movement of a control lever attached to a pinion 6 in the transmitter causes a piston 4 to move in the opposed cylinders 2, 3 thereby causing corresponding movement of a piston 15 in opposed cylinders 12, 13 of a receiver 14 so as to rotate a pinion 17 to which is attached the controllable member, for example, an electric switch controlling a motor. The system is primed by means of a manually operated pump 21, movement of the plunger 22 thereof forcing oil from a reservoir 30 through a non-return valve 24 and stop valves 31, 32 to charge the various cylinders, pipes and, by way of valves 28, 29, to partially fill a reservoir 27 in the transmitter in which unit is provided a "bleeder" valve. To synchronize the apparatus the receiver is set in the neutral position, valves 28, 29 are opened, the level on the transmitter is adjusted to the neutral position and the valves 28, 29 finally reclosed. In such a system no pressure exists except when the transmitter lever is being operated. Specification 695,957, [Group XXXIII], is referred to.
