575,899. Fluid-pressure servomotors. FARRINGTON, G. H. Jan. 7, 1944, No. 329. [Class 135] The pressure-fluid supply to each side of a piston 2 is controlled by valves 6, 7. Each valve comprises a housing 8 having a port 16 connected to the pressure-fluid supply, a port 17 connected to exhaust and a port 18 connected to the cylinder 1. These ports are connected to a bore having a large central part 13 and reduced end portions 11, 12. A cylindrical valve member 15 is carried by a rod 14 and forms a constriction leading from ports 16 to 18 and a further constriction from ports 18 to 17 so that the pressure on one side of the piston 2 is that which exists between the two constrictions. The valves are actuated by a three-armed lever 27 that is connected to a bellows 31 subjected to a pressure responsive to a variable to be controlled. The rods 14 abut levers 35, 36 pivoted on the lever 27 and adjustable by screws 37 to allow an initial setting. The piston-rod 3 carries a cam 22 engaging a lever 24 that bears against one end of a spring 26, the other end of which bears against the lever 27 and forms a follow-up device ; the pressure that the spring exerts against the bellows is adjustable by the screw 28. The follow-up device may be of the type described in Specification 551,159. The power piston 2 may adjust steering gear of ships and aircraft. The servomotor may be used to maintain the position of the film as described in Specification 575,897. Specification 12258/96, [Class 135], also is referred to.
