Abstract

845,018. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. DOWTY EQUIPMENT Ltd. Aug. 15, 1958 [May 16, 1957], No. 15629/57. Class 135. A closed-centre piston valve closure 21 slidable in a fixed sleeve 3 serves to reverse the connections from the pressure and exhaust ports 4, 7 to ports 17, 18 according to the direction of movement of the closure 21 from the central position shown. The closure 21 incorporates end bores 36, 38 in each of which is a plunger 39, 41 secured to bridge pieces 42, 43, respectively, that are attached to a rod 44 slidable in the valve block 1 and guided by pins 46, 47, the rod 44 having a lug 45 for operating purposes; spherically surfaced members 51, 52 engage complemental surfaces on the ends of the closure 21 which members are loaded by springs 53, 54 abutting nuts 55, 56, respectively, on the plungers 39, 41. The ports 17, 18 communicate with the bores 36, 38 via passages 35, 37, respectively, so that the pressure differential across a motor connected to the ports 17, 18 creates a force on the closure 21 through the plungers 39, 41 which move the closure in opposition to any displacement of the rod 44 until the closure 21 is in equilibrium. When used in a servo system a floating lever, not shown, may be pivoted to the lug 45, which lever is acted on differentially by an input signal and a fluid-pressure motor feedback signal. Two piston valves as described above may be arranged in parallel in a single block whereby a single rod 44 may simultaneously control two motors.
