[Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a hydraulic mechanism comprising a cylinder having therein a piston on an extensible tubular piston-rod, one end of which actuates the mechanism to be operated, and means for connecting opposite ends of the cylinder with an operating liquid for moving the piston in either direction, the piston-rod extends-slidably through both ends of the cylinder and one end of the piston-rod contains means for operating a screw connection in the other end of the piston-rod, which screw connection increases or decreases the effective length of the piston-rod. The control mechanism is a telemotor system including an equalizer or make-up reservoir and a slave unit (Fig. 2) having a piston 21 with a piston-rod 22, 23 extending from both its faces. The piston reciprocates in a cylinder 20 bounded by members 25, 32, and the length of the piston-rod is adjusted by moving the head 38 by turning an adjustment rod 41 through a slot 142. The head 38 engages the spring 39 of a centrifugal governor. The upper end of the piston-rod is threaded to carry nuts which slide in an enclosure member 47, and the stroke of the piston is altered by adjusting the position of the nut 42. The member 47 is loaded by a spring 53 so that should the telemotor system fail, the piston 21 will automatically be moved to an intermediate position determined by the position of the nut 42.
