Abstract

666,325. Hydraulic control systems. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and MORRIS, R. P. W. June 1, 1949 [Sept. 17, 1948], No. 24457/48. Class 69 (ii). In an agricultural tractor hydraulic system for controlling an agricultural implement on the tractor the control valve is returned to neutral automatically on completion of a lifting operation by pressure liquid which acts in an annular space between the valve and its lever and causes release of a detent holding the valve and lever. The Fig. shows a tractor hydraulic control system which is divided into two substantially identical sections A, B, one section A for example being for the control of a rear implement operated by a lever m, while the other is for the control of a jack or other required purpose. If desired a tapping on the pressure liquid supply of the first section, so that external apparatus can be connected to it, may be provided. Liquid under pressure from a pump (not shown) enters at e and when control valves c are in their neutral position (as shown) flows back to a reservoir by way of a pipe f. The operation of the section A only will be described. When the control lever of this section is moved into the "lift" position, as shown in dotted lines, the pump is shot off from the reservoir by a valve land a and connected to a passage h by reason of a valve land b uncovering the end of this passage. Liquid then flows through this passage and past non-return valves, i, k to a cylinder l to operate the rear implement lift lever m. When a piston y in the cylinder l reaches the end of its stroke the pressure rises and causes a bye-pass valve n to open so that liquid is supplied to an annular space p at the righthand side of the valve c. This releases the lever from a detent r and a spring s returns the lever to its neutral position. The spring acts through a pin t which carries a stop u so that the spring is unable to move the lever beyond the neutral position. When the control valve is moved into a "lower" position it unseats the non-return valve k and permits liquid to flow from the cylinder l through this valve and through passages in the non-return valve i and a passage not shown in a part w<SP>1</SP> into the space p and back into the reservoir, the land b having uncovered the end of the passage h and a stem part of the valve having moved away from an orifice in a washer q. The position of the part w<SP>1</SP> may be varied to vary the restriction to the flow. The pressure at which the bye-pass valve n opens is adjustable and this pressure may be greater in the case of the section A than in that of the section B. Any number of valve controls can be provided for by utilising a number of different sections. In any section a tapping may be taken to an external connection as indicated at x and x<SP>1</SP> in section A. Portings a<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> in the piston valves are provided to allow liquid which may seep into the annular space between the valve and its housing to leak back to the reservoir. External jacks may be operated.
