Abstract

518,935. Electroplating. BECK, R.. Sept. 8, 1938, Nos. 26255 and 26256. Convention dates, Nov. 3, 1937, and Aug. 26, 1938. [Class 41] Dilute solutions of organic or inorganic substances prepared by graduated dilution in three or more stages with an interval of rest between the stages are added in small quantities to electrolytic baths used for the deposition of metals, and improve the baths as regards conductivity, current consumption, yield &c. and the deposited metal as regards adhesion ductility, reflective power, resistance to corrosion &c. In examples, solutions prepared by graduated dilution of shave grass solution, sodium hydroxide or common salt are added to a nickelplating bath, antimony sulphate to a zinc-plating bath, benzoic acid to a chromium-plating bath, water-glass, extract of birch containing saccharin and boric acid, or solution in alcohol of nickel carbonate to a copper-plating bath, mercuric potassium cyanide to a silver-plating bath, extract of ox kidneys to a tin-plating bath, solution in alcohol of' copper carbonate to a lead-plating bath and an extract of fresh ash tree shoots containing saccharin and boric acid to a gold-plating bath.
