[Class 39 (i)] In a valve wherein the screen 5 is of box form having slots O for the electron flow, the edges q of the slots are ground sharp to present a single edge and reduce noise ; the screen may be formed of two connected plates separated to form the slots. A grid F may be used between the screen and anode A and a concentrating electrode B between the screen and control grid G ; the electrode B may be replaced by forming the supports for the grid G of curved metal strips. The electrode B may be used for gain control, modulation control or for mixing. The edges q of the slots in the electrodes B, S may be parallel to each other or inclined for use with a variable mu grid ; or they may be curved.
