518,664. Lubricating 'compositions. BUXBAUM, B. May 24, 1938, No. 15520. [Class 91] A lubricating oil for bearings or for machining metals is improved by adding a paste which consists of colloidal sulphur cold ground to particles of size not greater than 5 Á, and an oily, fatty or aqueous vehicle. The majority of the sulphur particles are of the order 1-2Á. The oil to be improved may be saturated with sulphur by stirring in fine sulphur powder, prior to adding the paste. The sulphur powder may be added at 40-70‹C. The oil-insoluble sulphur for cold grinding may be obtained by melting at 160-400‹C. and squirting into water. The amount of insoluble colloidal sulphur present in the oil is preferably 0.5-1per cent.
