Abstract
518,494. Nozzles. SHORTER PROCESS CO., Ltd. Aug. 22, 1938, No. 24651. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1937. [Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Groups XI and XXII] In a blow pipe burner a combustion supporting gas such as oxygen and a fuel gas such as acetylene are supplied through a mixer to a passage 23 in a blowpipe head H. The passage 23 leads to a chamber 25 where the mixture is expanded and is then conveyed through a relatively wide and thin passage 27 arranged at or nearly at 90 degrees to the passage 23, to an elongated orifice 28 where the gases issue for ignition as a jet having an equalized velocity front. The blowpipe head H comprises a front block 20, a rear block 21 and a V- shaped gasket 22 secured together by bolts 39, the passage 23 and chamber 25 being formed in the block 21 and the passage 27 being formed by the opening in the gasket. The shape of the chamber 25 is preferably that of a cylinder. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that a similar construction may be utilized for producing jets having equalized velocity fronts of gaseous fluids other than combustible mixtures. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
