Abstract

518,019. Trueing grinding-wheels. ATKINS, H. F. Aug. 6, 1938, No. 23262. [Classes 60 and 124] A grinding-wheel 1 having a spiral rib (not shown) is formed or trued by means of a spirally ribbed steel or other roller 11 rotating in synchronism with the grinding wheel. The wheel and trueing-roller are both mounted in bearings on a base plate 5 and are driven from a pulley 10 through worm gears 7, 22 respectively. The roller may be moved towards the grinding wheel by a screw 18 or the grinding wheel may be adjustable as well as or instead of the trueing roller. The speeds may be varied according to the number of starts of the ribs on the grinding wheel and trueing roller. Thus a roller 11 having double start ribs, will dress a single start rib on the grinding wheel if it revolves at half the regular speed of the grinding wheel and a four start rib if it revolves at twice the angular speed of the grinding wheel.
