Abstract

515,766. Free-wheel and change-speed hubs for cycles &c. CAMILLIS, L. June 29, 1938, No. 19222. [Class 136 (ii)] In a free-wheel clutch and multiple chain-wheel unit having an inner sleeve adapted to screw on the hub of a cycle &c. wheel, two of the chain-wheels each provide ball-bearing races located at each end of the unit, and complementary bearings are provided respectively on the sleeve and on a screwed race-cone engaging therewith. A sleeve 1 of stepped formation is internally screw-threaded at 2 for engagement with the wheel hub, and is provided at the ends with a screwed ball-race cone 4 and a collar 7 respectively forming the inner races for ball bearings 9, 10 of different diameters, on which are mounted chain wheels 12, 13, 14. The largest wheel 12 is formed with an annulus 19 constituting the outer race for the ball bearing 9 and with an externally screw-threaded boss 15 engaging an internally threaded boss 18 or the intermediate chain wheel 13, which has an externally threaded boss 17 receiving the smallest chain wheel 14 and also constituting' the outer race for the ball bearing 10. The boss 15 of the wheel 12 is formed with internal teeth coacting with spring-urged pawls 22 carried by the sleeve 1.
