Abstract

573,385. Cycle pedals. PETERS, D. C., and PETERS, W. C. Sept. 29, 1943, No. 15982. [Class 136 (ii)] In a pedal provided with a one-way clutch between the pedal and its spindle a, the collar i of the spindle is formed as the inner member of the clutch, being formed with inclined recesses n for balls or rollers o adapted to jam against the outer member d which is constituted by the end of the pedal casing b. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the clutch also forms the bearing for the inner end of the pedal, but in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) a separate ball-bearing is provided in the member d. The rollers o are confined at one end by the member d and at the other end by an annulus p brazed on to the collar i. In a modification, recesses for the balls or rollers are milled out in the periphery of the collar i without extending to either face thereof, thus leaving a wall at each end of the recess to confine the ball or roller. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 6227/98, [Class 136].
