515,716. Elastic-fluid turbines. KOHLER, G., and BRAGARD, T. June 10, 1938, No. 17292. [Class 110 (iii)] A reaction rotor blade for radial-flow gas or steam turbines is so shaped that the angle a, Fig, 2, between the lines R, yy of radial centrifugal force and minimum moment of inertia respectively decreases with increase in bending moment. With blades held at one end Fig. 6, this decrease is towards the hub, while with the blades held at both ends, Fig. 7, this decrease is towards the centre of the blade. In Fig. 1, the sections 4... 1 correspond to the lines A ... D of Figs. 6 and 7. This decrease may be effected by increasing the inlet angle of the blade, or by increasing the ratio of the inlet and outlimb lengths, reckoned from the centre of sharpest concave curvature, as by a tangential extension. The under profile of the blade may be moved out, keeping the rear profile constant, and the blade thickness may be increased. The profile form generating the under and rear faces may move in a curved path such as a circular arc.
