Abstract
675,494. Shot-gun cartridges. VECCHIOTTI, A. Nov. 11, 1949. [May 20, 1949; June 30, 1949] Nos. 28981/49 and 28982/49. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 12, 1950] Class 9 (i). A cartridge case for shot-guns is provided with a register member for controlling the distribution of the shot, the register member being a rod with an enlarged base. The case has a pleated closure which engages the top of the rod to centre it in the case. The case 1 is closed over the shot by a series of folds forming bow-shaped grooves 8 wider at the bottom than the top and spirally arranged around the axis of the cartridge. The folds are pressed inwards to form a concave surface, the sealing being completed by crimping the case to form a peripheral edge and a stepped centre edge, Fig. 9. The central aperture between the vertices of the folds is closed by wax, a cork pellet or a disc of paper or cellophane. In a modified form of the cartridge the closure may be flat or convex upwards. The cartridge may again be crimped to form a peripheral edge 10 and a stepped inner portion 11. A small column 12, Fig. 14, is inserted in the cartridge, the shot being grouped in an annular mass around the column. To the base of the column is secured a cardboard disc 13 and an undershot wad 15. The column may be of cardboard, hard rubber, paper-coated cork, paper-wool, wood or combinations of these materials with metal or rubber, and the column may be secured to the disc and wad by a screw, wires or nails. The column may be cylindrical, or octagonal and may have a grooved surface. The free end may be of reduced section to form a plug for the central aperture between the folds and to centre the column in the cartridge. A metal ring may surround the lower part of the column and be integral with a metal disc on which an annular cardboard disc 13 is supported to centre the column. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, also describes a cartridge case closed by forming triangular folds and bending these folds inwards. Crimped edges may be formed as before and the small central opening between the folds may be sealed by a disc of paper or cellophane or a cork pellet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
