Abstract
515,363. Television. HARDWICK, J. May 30, 1938, No. 16083. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A thermionic valve 16 with at least three electrodes functions as a switch on the application of switching pulses which are derived from controlling pulses by passing the latter through a coupling 17, 18, 19 which renders the switch conductive only after the termination of the controlling pulses. Each synchronizing or other controlling pulse is differentiated by the .transformer to afford two pulses of opposite sign from the leading and trailing edges respectively of the synchronizing pulse, and the valve is rendered conductive by the pulse generated by the trailing edge. The synchronizing pulses are followed by datum portions (e.g. black) and the valve connects a condenser 24 and resistance 25 to a lead 14 to stabilize the potential of the television signals and provide a gain-controlling potential. According to a modification, two valves are connected back-to-back and have the switching pulses applied to them simultaneously to serve as a two-way conducting switch, and a potentiometer is connected between the anode of one valve and the cathode of the other for balancing, Fig. 2 (not shown). Specifications 456,450 and 458,585 are referred to.
