Abstract
514,314. Automatic couplings for vehicles. SCHARFENBERGKUPPLUNG AKT.-GES. May 2, 1938, No. 13035. Convention date, July 3, 1937. [Class 103 (v)] In an automatic coupling for vehicles of the rotary disc-hook type in which a valve 5 for shutting off the air from the brake pipe 2 is operatively associated with the mechanical coupling elements, the valve 5 is arranged to be operated, through the medium of lever arms 8, 13 which, when intentionally operated by the mechanism 14 for rotating the bolts 12, of the rotary discs, displace the valve 5 so as to close the brake pipe 2, but which are unaffected if the bolts 12 rotate due to accidental uncoupling of the rotary discs, 'whereby the application of the brakes can still be carried out. As shown, the bolts 12 are provided with tappets 17 which work in recesses 16 in the lever 8, 13, one arm 13 of which is connected to an operating piston and cylinder 14, while the other arm 8 has a cam surface 10 engaging a plate 6 on the end of the valve spindle 5<1>. The end of the cam may engage a notch 11 in the plate 6 so as to retain the valve 5 in the closing position. Specification 448,876 is referred to.
