Abstract
581,320. Fluid-pressure brakes. SCHNEIDER, T. April 22, 1939, No. 12171. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1938. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A device for cutting off a defective pipe line of hydraulic braking systems or other pressure systems in case of leakage comprises a piston 8 having a passage through which liquid passes between the passage 21 connected to for instance a master cylinder and the passages 4, 5 connected to pipe lines leading to brakes. In the case of leakage in one of the brake connections, the fall of pressure therein causes a ball valve 10 in the piston 8 normally held open by spring 11 to close the passage through the piston when the brakes are applied and the piston 8 is forced down and closes the valve 12 to cut off the connections 4, 5. The valve 12 is held in its two positions by a friction sleeve 31 and by an elastic ring 14, which in the position shown, is retained in a groove, but may be forced off, on to the tapered part 22. A passage 23 is provided for filling the system, and may contain a ball valve 25 which seats under the same conditions as the ball 10. The stem 13 of the valve may, on descending, close the circuit of an indicator lamp.
