Abstract

361,532. Fluid-pressure brakes. ACME BRAKE CORPORATION, 12801, Jefferson Avenue, East, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Oct. 17, 1930, No. 31164. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1929. [Class 103 (i).] To prevent failure of a hydraulic brake system in the event of breakage of a pipe in the system, two pipes are provided and are separated by a diaphragm valve which automatically cuts off a broken pipe from the pressure supply. Pipes 23, 24 leading respectively to, for example, the front and rear brakes of a vehicle are connected to chambers 25, 26 in a casing D, separated by a rubber &c. diaphragm 37 formed with valve members 38. The chambers 25, 26 are connected by passages 27, 28 to the cylinder C in which is a pedal-operated piston adapted to force liquid through the pipes 23, 24 to apply the brakes. Thus if one of the pipes should break the pressure difference set up on the two sides of the diaphragm causes one or other of the valve members 38 to seat and cut off the defective pipe. The diaphragm 37 is disposed in an annular channel member 34 secured in the casing by the screwed plug 32.
