Abstract
512,357. Electric resistance furnaces. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., SMITHELLS, C. J., and WILLIAMS, S. V. July 7, 1938, Nos. 20144 and 23353. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electric annealing furnace, having an enclosure in which a non-reactive atmosphere can be maintained, the chamber wall is of metal 1, Fig. 5, lined with refractory material 6 on or near the inner surface of which electric heating elements 5 are supported, and is surrounded by thermally insulating material 10. In a modification, a metal base plate 1, Fig. 1, supports a metal hood 9 in grooves 2, and a refractory muffle 6 having heating elements 7 mounted on its inner walls. The hood and base plate are surrounded by refractory brickwork 11. Current leads 5 pass through tubes 4 welded around holes 3 in the base plate 1. Specifications 235,565, [Class 39 (iii)], and 370,628 are referred to.
