Abstract
511,590. Electrolytic etching ; isopropanol. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925), Ltd. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31925. Void. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1936. [Class 41] [Also in Group IV] In an electrolytic etching treatment applied to a strip A of aluminium or other metal which is to be subsequently used as an electrode in an electrolytic condenser the cathodes F, F<1> are curved so as to produce uniform etching ; in a modification the cathodes are complete cylinders of smaller radius. The etching electrolyte may consist of a solution of sodium chloride maintained at its boiling point by the current and/or a supplementary heater. After leaving the etching bath the strip is washed by sprays and passed through a bath of a volatile medium such as isopropanol and finally dried by heating. Water may be removed from used isopropanol by stirring with dehydrated sodium hydroxide and settling, the isopropanol forming the upper layer. Any alkali present in the isopropanol so recovered may be neutralised with formic acid. The water content of commercial isopropanol may also be reduced by this treatment. Specifications 416,010 and 467,024 are referred to.
