Abstract

509,735. Automatic firearms. MANCINI, N. Oct. 12, 1938, No. 29598. Convention date, Oct. 13, 1937. [Class 119] The breech-bolt of an automatic firearm is rotated into locked position by a torsional recoil spring or by a torsional spring 3 coupling the breech-bolt 1, Fig. 1, to a longitudinally guided sleeve 2. The barrel 8, Fig. 11, has longitudinal ribs 8<1> which guide ribs 2<1> on the sleeve 2, and ribs 1<1> on the breech-bolt. When the ribs 1<1> move forwardly clear of the ribs 8<1>, the torsional spring 3 rotates the breech-bolt so that the ribs 1<1> and 8<1> are in alignment, this corresponding to the locked position of the breech-bolt. The breech-bolt is fitted with a firing pin 9, Fig. 4<1>, having a tooth 9<1> guided in a slot 1<11> in the breech-bolt and passing through a. wide slot 2<11>, Fig. 5, in the sleeve 2. The tooth is held by the trigger 10 until the breech-bolt rotates into locked position, this movement carrying the tooth clear of the trigger 10 and allowing the firing pin 9 to move forward under the impulse of the spring 11 to fire the cartridge. The slot 2<11> has a bevelled end 2<111> which arrests forward movement of the firing pin so as to prevent the firing of the cartridge unless the breech-bolt has been rotated into locked position. The bevelled end 2<111> also withdraws the firing pin from the cartridge when the breech-bolt is rotated into unlocked position, this rotation being effected by a gas-operated mechanism (not shown).
