Abstract

509,439. Air-raid shelters. LONDON WORKS (BARLOWS), Ltd., and MAYER, A. N. March 16, 1938, No. 8087. [Class 20 (i)] A framework for a shelter for use in the event of warfare comprises a plurality of metallic inverted U-frames a, longitudinal tie-rods a' bolting the frames a together, longitudinal frame rods b having their extremities riveted to the respective frames a, angle-section rails a<3> connecting the lower parts of the frames a, and cross-rods a<2> uniting the said rails a<3>. The frames a may be of angle section, and the ends of the rods b may be reduced for passage through holes in the frame a. The rods a, b may be covered internally or externally with a metal fabric, and the structure is enclosed in concrete which is cast in situ and preferably so as to lie flush on the inside of the structure with the inner flanges of the frames a. The structure is provided with door frames c.
