Abstract

523,488. Air-raid shelters. GIBSON, T. S., and GIBSON, F. S. Jan. 7, 1939, No. 577. [Class 20 (i)] A concrete building for use as an air-raid shelter comprises transverse hollow frames 6, spaced apart by concrete spacers 9 having dovetail attachments to the upper double inclined cross-bars of the frame, and forming a ridge, and concrete slabs 12 adapted to rest upon ledges 10 provided at the foot on each.side of the frames. The meeting corners of four slabs are connected to the frames by bolts 14 and washers 17. The end frames are stiffened at their centres by uprights 15, and are provided with recesses 13 to receive the end closing slabs. - The roof slabs 18 may be simply supported or may be secured to the upper ends of the cross frames.
