Abstract
518,742. Air-raid shelters. SUMMERS & SONS, Ltd., J., YOUNGHUSBAND, K., and WILLOTT, R. L. Aug. 31, 1938, No. 25455. [Class 20 (i) ] An air-raid shelter comprises profile section bars 2 laid on the ground, corrugated metal sheets A, B each in one length in curved form to form the shelter their lower edges being accommodated in the section bars to prevent their inward movement and a covering of earth or the like 11 to prevent the outward displacement of the sheets. Alternate sheets are disposed with their side edges within or without the adjacent sheets, and the ends of the shelters are formed of shaped plates 6 stiffened by angle irons 7. The shelters are so disposed that a common communication passage 4 interconnects them. A door 10 is provided in the plates forming one end of each shelter and steps lead downwardly from the ground-level at these positions. An emergency exit 14 which may also be used as a ventilator is provided with a ladder 15.
