Abstract

494,382. Air-raid shelters. CHEMA, Ltd., LUTIN-OLOMOUC. Jan. 24, 1938, No. 2324. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1937. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (ii)] A. tunnel-like air-raid shelter comprises a concrete or masonry foundation 1, a plurality of inner and outer arched bars 5, 10 supported by the foundation. A sheet-metal lining 6 disposed between the inner and outer bars, and an outer concrete covering which is reinforced by wire netting 11 secured to the outer part of the structure. The shelter in use, is covered with a layer of earth 20. As shown in section in Fig. 2, the bars are of T-section and are arranged with their flanges face to face, the flanges being riveted, welded, or otherwise secured to the lining 6. The latter consists of a number of strips having bent-over edges which are engaged by inturned flanges of angle-bars 9. In constructing the shelter, wooden shuttering 13 is applied to the outer bars and the concrete is introduced at 14. A channel 15 is provided for the reception of various conduits leading to the shelter.
