Abstract

780,618. Air-raid shelters. DRAGER, O. H. April 6, 1955 [Sept. 2, 1954; Dec. 10, 1954], No. 10100/55. Class 20(1) A cylindrical shelter is composed of preformed concrete rings 1 interconnected by tensioned longitudinal members 6 extending through channels 8, and the arrangement is such that the structure can follow the movements of the surrounding earth. Each ring, which may comprise prestressed concrete includes inner and outer reinforcing means 3, 2 inter-connected by reinforcements 5, and the space between adjacent-rings is closed by cement mortar. The members 6 project from the end rings to provide a connection with the end walls of the shelter. A door 12 and an emergency exits 13 are arranged at opposite ends, and the exit has climbing irons 14 and a screen 16 which supports an air filter. Instead of being circular the parts - 1 may be of square form.
