Abstract

508,455. Resilient mountings. HOME, H. Oct. 29, 1938, No. 31345. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1937. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] A shock-absorber, more particularly for motor vehicles, comprises at least two additional elastic means of different yieldability in the connections between the arm and the axle which operate successively, for each direction of movement. One modification comprises hard rubber blocks 26, Fig. 3, and soft rubber blocks 23, the compression of which is limited by cylindrical members 30. In another modification, the two elastic means are formed in one block, the easily yieldable means comprising a thin flange 42, Fig. 4, on the block and the less yieldable means comprising a thicker flange 36. In further modifications, the flanges are of equal thickness and the easily yieldable means comprises the expulsion of air between the engaging edges of the flanges or sorbo rubber between the flanges. In a further modification, the block is formed by an annular tube containing air or rubber. In another modification, a strong spring comes into action after a weak spring.
