Abstract

432,304. Indiarubber &c. springs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, and SADLER, S., Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. April 20, 1934, No. 11916. [Class 108 (iii)] A cushioning device comprises a pair of spaced conical abutments 1 2 between which .is interposed a column of conical solid elements 6 of yielding material, the adjacent surfaces of which are bonded to conical elements 7 of inextensible material and which are subjected to shear and compression by a shaft 3 which is secured to the abutment 1 and which passes through central apertures in the remaining conical elements. The end members 7 are engaged by flanges 8, 9 on the members 1, 2. The members 7 may be connected to the members 6 by vulcanization or mechanical interlock and when formed of metal may be extended beyond the elements 6 to form cooling fins. According to the Provisional Specification the elements 1, 2, 6, 7 may be spherical or cup-shaped instead of being conical.
