[Class 39 (i)] A Braun tube comprises a metal layer between the fluorescent material of the luminous screen and the glass wall of the tube, the latter being satin-frosted on the side provided with the metal layer, and the metal layer is formed by evaporation or cathodic disintegration in such thickness that the externally incident light is absorbed to a greater extent than the fluorescent light passing through the metal layer. The metal layer may be made of a metal belonging to the eighth group of the periodic system, and is preferably rhodium, especially when phosphoric acid is the binder. Tungsten or molybdenum may also be used. Nitrocellulose may be used as a binder. The conductive layer may extend beyond the screen and serve to collect electrons.
