Abstract

505,432. Luminescent materials on lamps. SKINNER, G. D., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. Nov. 3, 1937, Nos. 30063/37 and 3924/38. [Class . 39 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A pendant lamp fitting comprising a reflector or shade and a primary light source, is provided with an element having a luminescent surface which is energized by the light source during normal illumination so as to function as an emergency light source or sign on extinction of the primary source. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1; a plate 3 bearing luminescent characters is. suspended from the rim of a reflector 1. A luminescent ceiling plate 9 may also be provided, being illuminated by the lamp 2 through the part 10 of the reflector which may be formed of glass or provided with apertures. The plate 3 may be disposed directly below the lamp or to one side. Its rear face is made reflecting. Fig. 5 shows another embodiment in which a luminescent ceiling plate 9 functions alone as the emergency light source. Specifications 479,220 and 499,136, [both in Group XI], are referred to.
