Abstract
505,118. Head - rests; canopies. THOMSON, R. C. Nov. 6, 1937, No. 30449. [Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable head-rest for deck chairs &c. consists of two side supports 6 hinged at 5 to the chair frame 1 and connected by canvas &c. 7, the rest being supported in the adjusted position by a pair of struts 9 each hinged to a side support 6 and having downwardly facing teeth or serrations 10 to engage the top bar of the chair frame. Springs or rubber bands may be provided to hold the struts in the engaging position. In the construction shown the struts are formed by the side limbs of a U-wire frame, the ends 14 of the limbs passing through the canvas 7 to form operating handles. The ends of the limbs may be bent so that the frame can be pivoted to the outsides of the side supports 6. A canopy of bent wire 18 with a canvas &c. cover may be provided. The canopy is - angularly adjustable by bending the wire. Each side support 6 may be pivoted on a pin passing between a pair of plates clamped to the chair frame by a bolt which does not pass through the chair frame, means being provided to prevent the plates canting during adjustment of the head-rest.
