Abstract

504,043. Winding yarn &c. HOLT, Ltd., T., and HOLT, R. Oct. 23, 1937, No. 29004. [Class 120 (ii)] A split-drum yarn-winding machine has stationary yarn guiding components located within the drum on opposite sides of the plane of rotation of the centrally disposed arms supporting the drum and the yarn traversing slit in the drum is formed on opposite sides at diametrically-opposed wide parts of the slit with cam surfaces whichdivert the yarn alternately from one guiding component to the other during the rotation of the drum. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the yarn guiding components consist of two forks 22, 23, held by 'arms 20, 21 attached to the brackets 14. The guide forks arc disposed at each side of the centrally disposed supporting aims 11 of the 'drum 10, and in a plane radial to the axle, inclined at 45‹ to the horizontal. The gap between the pairs of fork ends has just sufficient clearance to allow the passage of the arms 11 and the ends of the forks are curved slightly outward. The oblique traversing slit 24 is formed with wide parts presenting cam surfaces 25<1> at diametrically opposite points, one in each wall of the slit wall and the motion of the yarn in the guides is in the form of an elongated 8, the yarn being lifted up by the cam surfaces each time it passes over the gap between the guide forks.
