Abstract

493,044. Winding yarns. PLUCKROSE, R. G. March 17,1937, No. 7831. [Class 120 (ii)] A device for winding yarn, e.g. wool, from a skein comprises a rotatable member carrying a rotatable former spindle the axis of rotation of which is inclined at an acute angle to the axis of rotation of the rotatable member and which spindle carries a wheel engaging a fixed surface so that when the rotatable member is rotated the spindle is carried therewith about the axis of rotation of the rotatable member and is also rotated about its own axis. As shown the former spindle 4 carries a former 5 and with the wheel 6, is mounted in the offset portion 3<1> of the rotatable member 3 so as to be inclined at an acute angle, e.g. 45‹, to the axis of the operating spindle, having an actuating handle 7. The spindle 1 is mounted in a support 2 and a spring maintains the wheel in engagement with the face 2<1> of the support or a surface fixed thereto ; the surface may be in the form of a ring having an inclined side engaging the wheel and the member 3 may be provided with a series of holes or other means to one or another of which the operating spindle is secured so that the throw of the former spindle may be adjusted to vary the length of the mass of yarn wound on the former. The yarn is drawn through a guide 9 from a skein disposed around a pair of spools 14 rotatably and adjustably mounted in slots 17 in arms 12 separately pivoted to the support 2 ; the arms carry pins 20 and are acted upon at their inner ends by a spring 19 so that the support can be secured to a table top &c., the pins 20 engaging under the table and a plate 22 on the support, the top thereof.
