Abstract
503,051. Four - - stroke engines ; cooling cylinders. MAWEN. May 11, 1938, No. 14089. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1937. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 14, 1938.] [Class 7 (ii)] In a multi-bank radial-cylinder engine, in which the cylinders revolve inside a casing having annular valve tracks 166, ports 158, 160, 184, for the circulation of cooling air which is effected by an engine-driven fan 204 arranged at either end of the engine, and preferably driven from the crank shaft through planetary gearing 206, 208. Cooling air enters distributing passages 180 by flared openings 182 behind the air-screw and by openings 192 provided with scoops 198. Combustible mixture is supplied through passages surrounding the sparking- plugs 178 which are thus cooled. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the omission of the annular valve track and the passage 180, the cooling air being admitted directly by openings in the casing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
