501,438. Winding yarns. UPHILL. li. June 23, 1937, No. 17435. [Class 120 (ii)] A device for winding a skein of yam &c. into a ball comprises a skein holder having four arms a .. d pivoted to the arms of a cross-piece e horizontally mounted on a pivot g at one end of a bar f which, at its other end, carries a frame h housing three gear wheels i, j, k. The wheel i is mounted on a cranked spindle M by which it is rotated and is geared to the wheel k mounted on the spindle carrying the winding cone l, the wheel k being also geared to a cranked-spindle n connected to a link y pivoted at one end of a thread guide lever o pivoted on a pin r in an extension of the frame h. The arms a . . d have curved slots 1, 2 to accommodate different lengths of skein and the yarn passes from the skein through a guide eye s to a slot x at the end of the thread guide lever o and the beginning end of the yarn is secured in a slot t in the end of the cone l which is connected to its spindle by pawls on a disc secured in a recess in the end of the cone and engaged by a cross pin in the spindle.
