Abstract

500,814. Shock - absorbers. DOWTY, G. H, Oct. 13, 1937, No. 27808. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] In a retractable aircraft undercarriage made wholly or almost wholly of non-magnetic metal, e.g. a light alloy, the cross-sections of the telescoping tubes 2, 3 vary along their length according to stress distributions, the coacting surfaces being cylindrical. A bronze bush 4 on tube 2 protects it from wear; the rubbing surfaces may also be chromiumcovered. The non-magnetic oleo-pneumatic shock-absorber unit 7 contains no spring, and is held between a cup 6 on tube 2 and the end fitting 9.
