Abstract
375,205. Hydraulic shock absorbers. HONE, J., Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada. Dec. 15, 1931, No. 34719. [Class 108 (iii).] In shock absorbers more particularly for aeroplanes in which a hollow plunger 6 telescopes within a cylinder 3, an upstanding member 9 secured to the end of the cylinder passes through an orifice in the end 5 of the plunger, the member being tapered or graduated so as to provide liquid flow passages which diminish in area as the plunger moves into the cylinder. During the last stage of the compressive movement, the end 5 of the plunger engages a helical spring 11 and the hydraulic resistance is then reduced by the provision of a groove 13 in the member 9. The tapered or graduated member 9 may be replaced by a tube 15 having lateral orifices 16 as shown in Fig. 7.
