Abstract
498,309. Display cartons. WATSON, N. V., and WADDINGTON, Ltd., J. July 5,1937, No. 18662. [Class 3 (ii)] The lid of a carton is adapted to form a display stand by folding it transversely between its ends to form a two-limbed superstructure, and then folding a partly-severed portion of the lid to form a ledge between the limbs for supporting an article. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the carton formed from a blank, Fig. 4, has a lid comprising portions 7, 8 which are folded about scores 5, 6 to form a peak 9, and a cut-out portion 11, hinged to the lid at 12, is bent about scores 12, 15 to form a ledge 16 and background panel 14. To hold the carton securely in box form, a strip folded to form three portions 20 engages round the side and front walls of the carton, being secured to lugs 22 on the rear wall 19 by stapling 23. The strip extends beyond the upper edge of the walls in the form of readily detachably flaps 24 which can be folded inwards over the lid about scores 25. In a modification, Fig. 6, a part 27 is bent out of the portion 7 of the lid about a score 28 to form a ledge with a step 31, and is supported by a cut-out strut 32 engaging in a pocket 34 on the rear of the lid portion 8.
