Abstract

497,705. Flush valves. LAUTIAINEN, U., and ETOLA, N. A. April 5, 1938, No. 10437. [Class.l!35],' A flush valve for water closets comprises a main valve 6 controlling the flush from an inlet 1 to an outlet 2 and an auxiliary valve member 9 within a pis ton extension 10 of the main valve 6 control ling a passage 8 in the valve to the outlet. The auxiliary valve 9 is provided with a loose bushing 12 and is adap ted to be rocked by a hand lever 21 to relieve the pressure behind the piston 10, which is pro vided with a clearance in the casing, and allow the main valve to open The lever 21 is supported by a diaphragm 18 which allows a rocking movement whilst preventing leakage. After release of the hand lever 21 and closing of the valve 9 the main valve closes slowly to provide a desired duration of the flush. Should the hand lever be held in operative position for longer than necessary the lower end of the bushing 12 passes above a flange 20 on the lower end of the lever 21 and thus allows the valve 9 to descend and close, the bushing 12 remaining suspended.
