Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-An axial flow valve controlled by an auxiliary valve seating :n the nose of the main plunger is provided with means whereby, when the operating rod of the auxiliary valve is stationary or is moving more slowly than the plunger, movement of the plunger produces a movement of the pilot in an internal cylinder b supported by ribs from shown in the Figure the main plunger d works in an internal cylinder b supported by ribs from the outer casing and has a tapered nose adapted to co-operate with a seat a<1> on a contracted part of the casing. The auxiliary valve e which controls an aperture d<1> in the nose of the plunger has a stem e' guided in a bridge d<2> and provided with a socket e<2> adapted to engage the rounded end of a lever f pivoted at f to the main plunger. An internal rack g pivoted at j<2> to the lever f is connected by pinions i on a cross-shaft h to an external rack j. The rack j is actuated by a piston k under the control of tandem auxiliary p, p<1> actuated a plunger p<3> subject to outlet pressure. The pilot valve may be actuated by a hydraulic cylinder arranged within the cylinder b and having the rod attached to its piston connected to point f<2>. The device may be modified to act as a relief valve, self-closing valve, manually-actuated or float-controlled valve.
