[Class 100 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] Matrices.-Type bodies for photographic typecomposing consist of a plate or body similar to the matrix bodies used in type line casting and having at least one character on the broad side of the body or on a surface within the body parallel to the broad side. A character for lead casting may be provided on one edge of the body. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the body a is provided with teeth d and has an aperture g in which is mounted a film e bearing one or more characters for reproduction by reflected or transmitted light and held in place by a washer f. Fig. 3 shows a similar body in front elevation, a female character h for lead casting being provided on one edge. In a modification, Fig. 5, the character bearing film e is circular and has ears k which engage in corresponding recesses in the edges of the aperture g. The bottom of the aperture may be at a fixed distance from the front surface of the body, the thickness of which is varied according to the width of the character to permit of justification. The film e may be held in place by a removable washer retained in position by a bent-in rib at the edge of the aperture or by a split washer sprung into the aperture.
