Abstract
447,433. Engraving. WINCOTT, T. E., 122, Wardour Street, London. Jan. 14, 1935, No. 1246. [Class 100 (ii)] A process for engraving engine-turned metal surfaces consists in cutting the incised parts of the design to be engraved to the form of a double channel having a ridged centre 3, by cutting two adjacent parallel or substantially parallel grooves 1, 2 at an angle to the engine-turned surface. The ends of each ridge 3 are cut off as at 4 to form an inclined face in the end thereof, thus giving additional sharpness to the design. The design to be engraved may be transferred to the engine-turned surface from an inked engraved surface, and the engineturned surface may be prepared therefor by coating the surface with pigment to give a white flat surface. The design is engraved by the usual square hand engraving-tool which is ground to a more acute angle than is customary and is highly polished to give a polished cut.
