Abstract

496,598. Theodolites &c. COOKE, TROUGHTON, & SIMMS, Ltd., TAYLOR, E. W., and HARRISON, J. W. July 19, 1937, No. 19998. [Class 97 (ii)] Sighting means 2 in one position are trained on a point vertically above the pivot point of the telescope 1 and when turned through 180‹ in a vertical plane are trained through an optical path 16 in the base of the instrument on a point vertically below. As shown the sighting means 2 is secured by plate 14 to the telescope 1 and comprises a window 12, prism 5, adjustable objective 4, graticule 6 adapted to be centralized by four capstan head screws 11 and an adjustable eyepiece 8. An adjustable spirit level 3 is carried by an arm 13 extending from the sighting means 2. The optical path 16 through the base of the instrument has windows 18, 27 at the ends and may have a pair of lenses 20, 23, and a field stop F.
