Sighting-levels; instruments for setting-out angles; horizons, artificial.-A levelling-device comprises an optical square having associated with it a plumbline, which is viewed in the optical square so as to give an horizontal line, a direct sight of the objects to be levelled being simultaneously obtained by looking past the side of the prism. The pentagonal prism 1 is mounted on a disk 2 having a tubular handle 9 passing through a hole in a base-plate with a flange 12, which is formed with a plate 13 having a sighting-aperture 14 and is provided with a slot 15 for the plumb-line. The plumb-bob 20 can be screwed into the handle 9 by means of its threaded top 21 and is formed as a bobbin for the line. The prism 1 can be turned round on its base by the handle 9 through a right-angle when it is to be used as an optical square.
