Abstract
736,966. Photographic surveying. EXPLOITATION DE PERFECTIONNEMENTS INDUSTRIELS. June 26, 1952 [July 10, 1951], No. 16156/52. Classes 97 (2) and 98 (1). [Also in Group XIX] Hollow earthworks are surveyed by photographing plane sections illuminated by light radiated as a thin flat beam in the plane or as a narrow parallel beam rotated in the plane about an axis normal to the plane. In the form shown a lamp 5 is mounted in a parabolic reflector rotatable by a handle 10 round the axis X, Y of an alidade telescope having a casing 2, current being supplied through a contact 8 sliding on a fixed contact 7. The assembly is levelled by a spirit level 11 and its axis is aligned with or parallel to that of the camera. Light from a hole 13 provides a circle on the photograph which acts as a reference to give the scale of the photograph. For alignment purposes light may be directed through the telescope from the end opposite to the camera. In another embodiment the light source is fixed and is surrounded by an annular Fresnol lens by which the whole cross-section is illuminated. Some light is directed axially for alignment purposes.
