215,981. Taylor, A., and Linn, J. D. May 31, 1923. Miners' dials.-The sighting-means in a miners' dial consists of a telescope of unit magnification. The telescope A consists of two similar lenses a equidistant from a diaphragm or cross-wires a<x> so that either lens can be used as the eyepiece. The telescope is mounted in a holder A<1> provided with a pivot a<1> by which it is rotatably mounted in a bracket B, discs a<2> , b<2> graduated on their peripheries and carried by the holder and bracket respectively, being provided to form a vernier scale for indicating the inclination of the telescope to the horizontal. The bracket B is mounted on the compass box C and is provided with means for setting it at one or more definite inclinations to the vertical, these means comprising two radial keys b carried by the bracket and adapted to engage in corresponding pairs of radially disposed depressions on the box C. The bracket can be secured to the box in any of these positions by screws b<1>.
