Abstract

147,305. Hamilton, C. R. April 22, 1919. Clinometers for aircraft &c. A weighted compass 1 is suspended in a gimbal ring 2 which is pivoted in a casing 6. The ring 2 carries a graduated strip 8 which is preferably slightly curved, the compass carrying a telescopic pointer 9, the end 11 of which remains in contact with the strip 8 as the ring 2 tilts around the compass. To measure the inclination of the ring 2 to the casing the latter may carry a scale 17 cooperating with the edges of the strip 8, or a pointer 18 moving over a scale 19 may be secured to an extension of the pivot 4.
