Abstract
634,473. Clinometers. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and COX, R. P. Sept. 1, 1947, No. 24128. [Class 97 (ii)] A clinometer comprises a casing a having windows c and furnished with a drum b rotatable through an unlimited angle in which is mounted coaxially the pendulum f. The lower end of the pendulum f carries a pointer g swinging adjacent to a scale mounted on the periphery of the drum, the drum being mounted on rollers d in the casing and rotatable by gearing operated by the knob e to set its zero mark i against a datum h on the casing. The casing is provided with a straight side having means thereon whereby it may be attached to the surface whose inclination is to be determined, comprising, for example, a fixed hook and a hook k whose position may be adjusted by means operated by knob m or, alternatively, suction pads. The scale may be carried by the pendulum and co-operate with an index mounted on the drum and in another embodiment a pointer is rigidly secured to the axis of the pendulum and indicates inclination on a scale carried by the drum. The pendulum may be non-magnetic. The accuracy of the pendulum may be checked by means of a spirit level mounted thereon.
