Abstract

589,901. Sighting clinometers. INGLIS, J. N. April 2, 1945, No'. 8159. Convention date, April 15, 1944. [Class 97 (ii)] A sighting instrument for measuring altitudes of celestial bodies, angles of depression and elevation of terrestrial objects. and for other like purposes comprising a vertical member 1 carrying a scale 6 and sighting means 4 and rotatably mounted on a horizontal axis 2a from which depends a pointer 3 which is free to swing under gravity and co-operates with the scale 6. The sighting means 4 consists of apertures in two diametrically opposite lugs 4, 5 fixed to the turnable member. The support 2 of the turnable member 1 is mounted on a turn-table 7 which is provided with scales of horizontal angles indicated by a pointer 12 on the base. A pointer 16 on the turn-table co-operates with scales on the base indicating local apparent time, magnetic deviation or azimuth angles. A magnetic needle 17, spirit level, and means 20 to adjust the base angle may be provided on the base.
